I am always on the lookout for good produce so I thought I would try it out. Later I heard about Bountiful Baskets and have an order to pick up on Saturday. I thought I would compare the two and decide which one I like better. And you get to hear my experience with each.
I put in my order for Green Bee on a Wednesday. On the website it says you have to order three days before but here in Utah it is a week. So I waited a week and a half until I could pick up my produce. I thought the website was nice and very self explanatory. It was pretty easy to create my order.
Green Bee offers a variety of products. I went ahead and ordered a full box of produce because I wanted to see how much came in it. They also have half boxes and bread and specialty boxes ect.
The price was 18.50 even and they were willing to take Amex. you pick up your Box of Produce at a hosts location. Mine happened to be a house. But some are at schools or churches.
They whole first process was fine and my receipt said to pick up on March 6 between 8:30 and 9:00 am.
Saturday morning arrived and I went to the host location listed on the receipt. And... No one was there. There was another lady there who was going to pick up her produce for the first time. But no one was there to give us our produce. I called the number for the host listed on the receipt and it went straight to voice mail. I was not sure what to do.
I came home disappointed and wondering what happened to my produce and wrote a letter to the company via the contact page. (there is no general phone number)
I expressed my concern and wanted my produce.
I then looked at the site where I was to pick up the produce and noticed that the time had changed. The new time was 11:15 to 11:45 am. I was quite frustrated as I felt that I should have been notified of the change. Besides the fact that 11:15 is an awful time to pick things up on a Saturday.
Finally, I went down at the new time and was able to get my produce. I found out that the host who normally handles the site was out of town. I was told that she sent out a mass email. I am sure she did but it did not come to me, and I would think that first time purchasers would be very important to include.
So here is what I got. This is a picture of the box. I think it is pretty cute.
In the box was:
1- 16oz container of strawberries (CA)
5- Bananas (Ecuador)
8 - Small white nectarines (Chile)
9 - Apples (USA)
3- Tomatoes
6 - Small broccoli heads (the tag says organic Private Selection)
1- 10 oz bag of snow peas
1- Head of Romaine lettuce
1-Head of Red lettuce
3- Small Zucchini
1- Giant Cucumber
2- Bunches of green onions (Mexico)
(I included locations on the foods that had them because of their website it says they like to get local produce)
The quality of the produce was decent. My bananas were all green, and my nectarines were very hard. I prefer a little softer nectarine. Their website says that you can return any produce that you are unhappy with. I did not try this as I just figure they would ripen. I would have if any of it was moldy or severely bruised.
I still have a lot of produce let to use and it is already Wednesday. Good thing I signed up to bring a veggie platter for our ward activity on Saturday. I would hate to waste good produce.
So the overall experience was not so bad. I would have hoped that the communication would have been better but, I did get my produce in the end and I have really enjoyed trying to figure out how to use it all.
I will let you know how it goes with Bountiful Baskets.
This is just a cute picture of Braden with an orange. It did not come in the box but I thought it was cute. He loves oranges.
